It's here! The Scrappy Steps pattern was shared with newsletter subscribers this week!

I've been wanting to write the instructions for sewing this quick Courthouse Steps quilt for while. I first made it in 2021 using loads of scrap 2.5" strips. It made for a super fun, colourful quilt, and was super popular on Instagram!

I always wanted to make it again, and I finally did! This time I used two Ruby Star Society Jolly Darlings jelly rolls and was more intentional about how I placed colours in the blocks. This created a fun pattern!

Courthouse Steps quilts are so fun because they can look so different depending on how colour is used and blocks are turned. I include a few different ideas and mock ups in the pattern, and I know I'll be making another one in the future!

The Scrappy Steps pattern is going to be free through the month of December, and after that it will be going into my PDF pattern shop for a small fee.

JANUARY 2023 EDIT - Thank you to all who downloaded the Scrappy Steps pattern in December! The pattern is now available in my pattern shop. Find it right here!

Happy sewing!

Introducing the North Star FPP block pattern!

This is a foundation paper piecing block pattern that can be incorporated into all kinds of sewing projects.
The pattern comes with templates for three different sizes: 6", 9" and 12". This allows for more variety in how the block can be used!

If you are new to FPP I also include a link to a video tutorial that walks you through sewing a block.
FPP is a fun skill to add to your quilting repertoire!

This is the 6 inch block made with pink and red Christmas scraps.
It was the perfect size to add to a stocking!
I used the free stocking pattern from Piece Fabric Co - thank you so much for sharing it!

The 12 inch size was my first sample, and my vision for this pattern.
I wanted a framed star to add to my Christmas decor, so I made it!
I used the Art Gallery Fabrics Christmas in the City collection and
the frame is from Wayfair (I removed the glass).

My final sample was a 9 inch size in Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids.
My plan is to make two more and make a table runner with them!
I will use my free Starry Night table runner pattern and replace the star blocks with these!
They will fit perfectly into the pattern.

The North Star FPP block pattern is available now in my shop!

In September - October I hosted the Cabin Nights Quilt Along on Instagram!

It was the very first sew along for me to host, and it was so much fun! We had amazing participation and prizes from loads of generous sponsors! You'll have to visit the hashtag #cabinnightsqal on Instagram to see all the beautiful versions of the pattern that were made!

I used a Ruby Star Society Honey collection fat eighth bundle. I had to modify the cutting instructions a little bit for using F8s instead of fat quarters, but it was completely doable, and made for an extra scrappy quilt!

We broke down the steps of sewing the quilt over six weeks. From choosing fabric, to cutting, so sewing all the stars, then adding the bear paw points, log cabin strips, and finally sewing the blocks together with the sashing. I sent out weekly emails with tips and photos along the way!

It was super fun! Thank you so much to all those who participated, and to all the sponsors for helping out with the weekly prizes!

The best part of the Cabin Nights quilt is taking it along on a cabin getaway! The sew along happened to end on my birthday week, and we went to the lake for the weekend to celebrate. It was the perfect way to end the sew along!

I had a wonderful group of quilters test the Cabin Nights pattern for me before release. They all made such beautiful quilts, and provided extra inspiration for others!

The first quilt, with the cutest cow ever, is made by Mary of @sewmaryhappy. She is the most wonderful Quilty friend I've met on Instagram, and she's starting to write her own quilt patterns too! I can't wait to start sewing her scrap happy patterns!

This quilt was made by Stephanie of @stephanieraehandmade in Daybreak from Cotton and Joy.

This one is made with a fat quarter bundle from Midlife Quilter and was made by Mary of @embercraftcompany

This one uses the Ruby Star Society Stay Gold collection and was made by Alaina of @heliotropegreen

Caitlin of @xforthelovex made this one in a mix of blues and neutrals.

Lesley of @quiltsbylesley made this one in Kona solids.

Breanna of @roseivyquilts made this one in the Ruby Star Society Unruly Nature collection.

And, to finish, Mary @sewmaryhappy, made a second test version in a 100% scrappy version!

Thank you so much for making the Cabin Nights quilt for me ladies! I appreciate your work and help so much!

I made a pair of crib sized Cabin Nights quilts using an 18 piece fat quarter bundle of Ruby Star Society Tomato Tomahto fabric - a super fun collection!

The bundle divided perfectly into two sets of nine for a pink/red colour way and a blue/green colour way!

I machine quilted both of these with wavy organic lines - a quick and easy way to finish a quilt!
Both of these quilts were listed for sale - the pink/red is sold, and the blue/green is still available!

The pattern is available in my shop in PDF, paper and wholesale formats!

I was OVER THE MOON to make a Cabin Nights quilt sample in Ruby Star Society's upcoming collection, Moonglow.

I used 16 fat quarters from the collection, plus Speckled in neon pink for background.

This collection mixes and matches so dreamily!

I sent this quilt to Aspen Grove Quilting for long arming.  I absolutely love the pantograph she chose!

The Cabin Nights pattern is available in my shop now, and Moonglow will ship to stores in 2023!

Well, now that it's December, I guess it's time to share my Cabin Nights quilt pattern that released in August! Yikes! I'm a little behind on updating my blog, but let's see if we can get all caught up on Prairie Quilt Co news!

This post is all about the Cover Girl, made with the Then Came June Kona Solids fat quarter bundle. I love the bright colours in this mix - they all mix and match so well together, and it was the perfect choice for a summer sewing project!

The Cabin Nights quilt, as you can guess, is a fat quarter mix and match quilt. The pattern comes in three sizes - Toddler, Throw and Bed, and you'll need 9, 16 or 25 fat quarters plus background fabric depending on the size you choose!

The pattern mixes together a lot of my favourite traditional quilt pattern motifs, starting with the centre sawtooth stars for each block.

Next, a round of bear paw points are added to the stars.

Then we add the log cabin strips! Do you see the mixing and matching happening?

Once these are added the blocks are complete, and the top is ready to finish with sashing!

The cover quilt was quilted by Matante Quilting. I love the pantograph she chose for it!

I added pink gingham cornerstones, since I just couldn't have a completely solid top. I'm definitely more of a prints girl, but I love the brights too!

I love how it all came together! It's such a fun quilt to make, and it looks good in so many different fabrics! I made a few more versions after this one!

The pattern is available in my shop in PDF, paper and wholesale options!
